For the past few years my husband and I didn't file taxes because we were given bad advice by people that if we owed not to file for 3 or 4 years and work out a pay plan. Well we ened up making a lot of money in 2002 so we thought we would file past years and this year. We filed the previous years that came out to $2500 owed for state and federal and 2002 we owed a little over $22,000 because listened to the idiots tell us to file exempt. Just a really young and stupid thing to do. With deductions we got it down to $15,800. We called the IRS and had them immediately put it on file that we need a pay plan. We sent $175 with the $2002 return that they cashed. They said to call back in a few weeks because they have that we owe nothing yet because it has to be processed.
I just got my credit cleaned up and all the bad stuff paid off last year to get our house and we have gotten everything deleted off my credit report this month finally. It took months. I don't want a lein on my house. Will they work with us? I mean I just got the first credit card I've ever had in my life that I couldn't get before because of mistakes I made when I was 18 and now this. I got a AMEX blue chip card. I just got it today and put it in a drawer. We agreed to pay one bill a month on it and then the very next day pay the card off to a $0.00 balance so we can get some revolving credit because we have no revolving credit just installment accounts. Will someone please advice me. The IRS says they will be able to work with us once they have everything processed and can see what we owe. But my husband and I lost our jobs and he is on unemployment and I'm attempting to do consulting work but it's slow. Can anyone advise us?
Thanks very much.
