harassment form collection agency

I just got a call today from a collection agency. They did not say who they were, who I owed money too and the woman who left the message was VERY insulting, rude and just a plain &%$#@. I saved the voice mail and I have not called her back yet. I also have not recieved any written notice of the debt from them. Aren't they supposed to send that to me after the first call? I belive this is the second call, but I was out of town and could not call them back in the 48 hours they gave me. Any suggestions??
