Most of the time you can deal with the OC but rest assured the CA WILL get its cut and if the CA has a tradeline on your report it will report it as a paid chargeoff. After all, the CAs job is to get you to pay the bill. IF you pay the bill to the OC then in essence they did what they were hired to do. IF the CA bought the debt then the OC is owed nothing and you might as well burn your money because it is gone and will not go towards the debt. Think of it this way. If you buy a stove at best buy who owns the stove? You do. Best buy has nothing to do with it anymore and has no legal claim.
