There are many others on this board who have forgotten more than this lowly scribe can ever learn on the subject of credit and collections, yet here's a couple of points.
One, to repeat Kelly's and Observer's sage comments, do not talk to creditors, period. Nothing, not even the time of day of the local weather conditions. They will spin it around to your disadvantage. There is no negotiating with predators.
Two, as far as companies buying out mortgages, perhaps this is a legitimate avenue for your, but personally, a the credit and collection travelogue is a downward journey from one perpetrator to the next, be very carefu.
My dear and much missed friend, Honest Tom puts matters succinctly: With Credit, Collections, even Banks, you never know who you're really dealing with, figure on a good day you're getting in bed with the Mob." Quickly does it descend from that point downward into the lowest ring of Dante's Inferno, home of Rufus, Hugh Brett, Sherman, and the dread beast, Camco-ligula. Horrid. Be careful. As Why Chat sez, better volunteering with needy animals, even rabid dogs are better company that the tailless nit-ridden demented dingos peopling the credit 'industry'.

Hope this helps,

Keyser Soze
