I am not an expert but this is my understanding. If they can't validate the debt then you should not pay the debt. It seems if they are offering you a compromise then they don't have the legal standing. (note I'm not a lawyer) I know that Allied asked me to pay an $85.00 debt but I asked them to validate the debt, they have not done that and the item has been removed from my credit report!

Don't ignore the debt but make sure they either "VALIDATE" the debt or they remove it from your credit rating. And with validating the debt DO NOT pay them a penny!
