I,also, just recently received from The Westmoreland Co. (a siduary or part of) Capital One the same offer you've mentioned. They had bought a charged-off account from another creditor who had previously purchased this account from the original creditor. I just received this letter from Westermoreland about a month ago. In the letter they stated that I could pay them just some money on this old account and still within 30 days dispute the claim if I wanted to. I still have the correspondence. Anyway, I wasn't stupid enough to fall for this ploy. After coming across this board about six months ago, I have gotten alot smarter about some of the illegal tactics that creditors will use to get you to pay off an old account. I will definitely contact the mentioned website for a lawsuit against this company.
