CAMCO, would like to sue

I have an answering machine tape with a recorded threat that a CAMCO collector made when calling my house and leaving a message, among other things.

Here is my question. Now I have called local attornies in my area and they all say, it's under $5,000 (actually the violations added together probably equal about $5,000) and for that I should go to small claims because it is too small for an attorney.

Also, a certain law firm in chicago which shall remain nameless tried to get the case, but wanted me to front all expenses for travel to a deposition across the country and I would end up getting nothing out of a settlement after all the expenses and fees so I let them go.

I would like to file in small claims, but the thing is I'm in California and CAMCO is in Illinois and what I'm reading on our small claims court sites is that the "venue" doesn't fit their regulations. They say that you HAVE to serve in California unless it has to do with a property or car.

Any suggestions???

If you are a lawyer, and you think you might like to take my case for the usual FAIR contingency, and not some rip off where I only end up with 10% of the lawsuit, leave an email adddy and I'll contact you.
