First thing I would suggest, as Scott would say, don't talk to these people on the phone. They are obviously upsetting you. In addition, nothing is going to hold up unless you have it in writing. You have nothing to gain by talking to them and everything to lose. If they have something to say, make them put it in writing and sign it.

Have they sued you yet? If not, when and if they do, you will have the opportunity to try to make a settlement offer that is reasonable for you.

Nothing can happen until they get a judgment. Then they have to find out about your financial situation.

I don't think they can garnish your husband's wages unless he was on the account.

A leased car is just that - a lease- it does not belong to you so they can't take it.

I know how upsetting these "bill collectors' can be...please don't let them upset you any more. Stop talking to them.

I'm sure WhyChat and Lady will be here soon to give you much more information.

In the meantime, please calm down and stop talking to these bottom feeders. They will say or do anything to get money out of you. Their paycheck gets bigger with every dollar they take away from your children.

One more thing:

post your state, date of last payment to the original creditor. This will help the experts help you.
