How long can a credit card company collect?

I had a crdit card in '91 with a balance of $8000 that I filed bankruptcy on in '93. Nothing was heard from them since that time until now. They are now trying to collect the amount of $23,000 from my ex-wife. Can they go after her after this length of time? Is there any recourse? Any informatin would be most helpfull.
