Your home is safe if you and your wife own it jointly, (in the entireties) .

I suggest before you start any "negotiations" with anyone you slow down and do some basic damage control.

First, get a copy of your wife's and YOUR credit reports from all 3 agencies, do not get a "3 in 1" get them individually from each CRA.

Second, "opt out" that will prevent new credit card offers coming in the mail.

Third, NEVER NEVER NEVER do anything by phone, e-mail or even fax, if you are making an offer for your wife,do it by mail CRRR.

And last, providing there is no other SERIOUS damage to undo, you may wish to consider leting her debts that have already defaulted, stay unpaid. Her credit is already shot, paying the CA will not improve her credit, and it may in fact make it worse, as once a CA has been paid off,she will get offers of substandard high interest credit cards, and although you are not on HER cards, she may be on some of YOURS, and YOUR credit rating may well have already been affected.
