do not pay charge off accounts

we got behind in our credit cards and went to a non-profit agency to save our credit. We have been paying
on time for 18 months. We went to get a home equity loan to finish paying off these debts and were denied
because CHARGED OFF appears on Capitol One, Home Depot,
Walmart, and Newport News(FCNB). Even after they are paid they said they will leave the CHARGED OFF (Paid) on our accounts and it stays on for 7 years and will prevent you from getting credit just like Bankruptcy.
Paying CHARGED OFF Accounts sure doesn't pay YOU!
