Old Leased vechicle loan

HELP! About 4 years ago i turned in a car i leased to PRIMUS (division of Ford) a month before the lease was due to expire. The car had an overage of miles and some damage to a fender so i knew i'd be responsible for some fee's. I have been turned over to MANY collectors who all say i owe about $6,000. Not one has ever been able to give me anything showing how it got to a bill so high. I kept being turned over to different companies. Finally I agreed with one to a settlement of about $1200. The guy fell off the face of the earth and the collection co. wouldn't honor what he said. Long story short they wont honor me making pymts on the settlement either. So i started making pymts on this ridiculous $6,000 bill and am STUCK. what do i do now? i've only paid about $350-400 so far.
