Bad credit car loans?

I just had a quick question on car loans. My credit is less than perfect at this point. I have been denied by several lenders for an auto loan. The amount I want is small ($4,000) and that is for a used car. My current car will not make it through the winter. However I have enough saved up to be able to put nearly 50% of the car's cost down, which would be $8,000. Are there any reputable lenders that will lend me the balance I need ($4,000). The interest rate doesn't concern me too much as I plan to have the car payed off before the end of the loan anyway. It's just that my credit was damaged when I was younger (and stupider) and I am paying the price now, even with a good job. Thanks for any help.
