We received a phone call yesterday from a collection agency in Tulsa regarding a hospital bill from july, 1995. We made payments on it and because the insurance was not longer in effect, the hospital was going to reduce the bill. They never did, they turned it over to their own collection people and we told them the same thing that the business office was going to reduce the bill. They were going to check with the business office and get back with us and they never did. Yesterday we get this call from a lady that says she is from the collection agency to collect $11,000 + but she would reduce it by 25% if we paid in cash now. She said if we paid, they would remove it from our credit report and that way we could settle out of court. She said that the last payment was in 2000. We don't know what to do, we just had a credit report ran and I don't recall an unpaid debt. What should we do?
Thanks for any help!
