My father passed rather unexpectedly in May of 1993 at the age of 50. Two weeks after his passing, I was visiting with my Mom when Ford Mtr. Credit called. The gentleman was extremely rude at first when speaking to me as my father had missed two payments. I stopped his ramblings by saying, "Sir, he passed away 2 weeks ago after having been in the hospital for 8 weeks. We just buried him last week. If you really need to speak to him that badly, I'll give you the address of the cemetery and the plot number. If he should respond, could you please let him know that he needs to call me, as I have some things I need to ask him". His attitude changed VERY QUICKLY. He apologized to me and gave his condolences. He then instructed me on what to do (Dad had insurance on the car to pay it off). He was extremely helpful and told me what to do to let any other creditors know about his death, so that they would not bother us further.

I realize how unusual that is but the point is, they need to be told. Even if it is just a letter with the death certificate attached so that they do not bother others during such a difficult time.

Desperate, I am very sorry for your loss. Do as LadynRed says and ignore Marc's foolish and cruel response.
