We had a Ch. 7 discharged bankruptcy sue to serious illness of child 6 years ago. We have maintianed very good credit since (and before child's illness). We would like to get a home equity line of credit, but were denied because of bankruptcy only - bank said the rest of our credit was very good, and we would have no problem next year (7 years after bankruptcy). We are honest people, but pushed to the limit. I want to write to the credit bureaus telling them they made an error, and deny the bankruptcy. I know that if they cannot verify it, it comes off our credit report. I told my husband we are not being dishonest, just testing the system. He is upset with me. I feel if they verify it, no problem. If they decide not to bother within 30 days, how lucky for us for the first time in years. Has any one ever done this? Could any one back me up on this?
