Validation is not pointless and this also serves them notice of a pending lawsuit which they will not want.

In my opinion, the CA will disregard the SOL letter and will take due note of the validation letter as many more lawsuits are filed for validation/Cease & Desist/ and dispute reasons than for Statute of Limitations.

You will obviously have to decide for yourself, in my opinion, even if the debt is beyond SOL, the fastest way to get them off your back is to ship out my letter.
