If I am not mistaken, the validation refers to all collection agencies. It does not apply to the original creditor, but it should apply to the collection agency.

However, have your husband file an "injured spouse" claim each year with your taxes. That way, you should get some of your taxes back. They use a formula based on how much he paid in from his wages and how much you paid in from yours. If he is the only one paying in taxes, you should be able to get most if not all of your taxes back. I am not sure if you can still file one on your previous tax returns or not. Check into it with the IRS or HR Block or an accountant.
