First Select Providian Credigy Accounting Smells

I was not informed that my account was sold from First select to Providian to Credigy. Am I entitled to some
kind of statement that tells me this information? I have
records from my credit counseling agency (NOT Ameritrust!) that prove I have, and they have, made all the payments for the last five years to Providian. Providian sold to Credigy, who
now is employing lawyers to collect the entire original sum from me. The lawyers want to "cut me a deal" etc.
Someone is stealing my money. The lawyers tell me they will file a jugement unless I make a payment agreement.
I have received no correspondence from anyone since 2000.
The original balance was around 1300. The lawyers tell me that with 19% interest, I owe them $2855.00. This
all smells big time to me. What to do? Thanks in advance.
