Your best bet at a mortgage with conventional rates could be FHA. They are not score driven and require all open collections satified and a year of clean credit {2 years if a bk is on your report}.
www.fhalibrary.com can get you started. Also, www.creditboards.com has an active mortgage forum with some knowledabe professionals. Also, go to www.creditnet.com and type FHA in the search and you'll find threads by the score of people with scores approaching 500 getting conventional rates with FHA.
BTW, creditboards also has an auto finance forum that seems helpful. Ask their about the car loan problem.
