CACV is a company called Collect America located in Colorado...good place for them to hide. Anyway the the New York Atty may be a real one, but he personally has no power to sue you. CACV has the option of sending the account to an Atty in your state, but that is doubtful. DO NOT PAY THEM A DIME! Was the validation letter sent certified or do you have a mailing recipt? I generally send things via regular or 3 day mail and then pay the extra .30-.45 cents for a delivery receipt. That way you can go to the USPS website and verify that the article was delivered. The FDCPA is not specific as to the number of days that must pass, but states "a reasonable amount of time". Most courts has stated however that 30 days is that reasonable time...keep good records. Also since the account has been sold is doesn't hurt to order your credit reports and dispute the triginal creditor after a reasonable time (8-12 months).
