If it is credit card accounts, it is governed by state you live in. New York has six year Stats across the board. If you are past the six year stats you are safe since I believe NC is only 4 years. If the account numbers are the same for the two collection accounts, you can dispute them both as duplicates of the same account and then have them declared obsolete when the time comes.
