Perfecting a judgment simply means transferring a judgment into the state where a resider lives and having it entered into the courthouse where he/she lives. If you don't have a judgment at your local county court or district court where foreign judgments are to be perfected or domesticated, they can't enforce a judgment. A judgment in order to be enforceable has to be entered and accepted by the state you live in. If you got a judgment in Maryland, the judgment in Maryland is only good for when you lived in Maryland. The creditor has to take the judgment and have it transferred to another state. If there was a default judgment in Maryland where you didn't show up for the trial, I think FLorida has this law that does not allow default judgments to be perfected. I may be wrong on that but I remember reading that and I would appreciate if WhyChat or LadyNRed or Taziblue can step in here on this one.

Even if there was a judgment against you in Maryland and it was on the courts, your creditors can't do anything to have it enforced because you live in Florida and they have to transfer the judgment to Florida. And they can't do it because it is past the SOL. In FLORIDA, foreign judgments are five years and they have to be renewed so they are out of luck but if it would make you feel better, you can contact the courthouse and the Attorney General's office about the statute of limitations on foreign judgments that are over 16 years old. If it is past statute of limitations it wouldn't hurt to send your AG of FLorida notifying that a CAMCO lawyer is attempting to collect really old judgments and is using an attorney to do so. Also contact the FTG and go to www.ripoffreport.com and type in CAMCO. This is an unsavory group of thugs. You need to watch your back.
