If beyond SOL pay them nothing. Within SOL sit tight, if they sue respond vigorously. They may go away. There is no reason to pay these crooks anything. Paying them nothing actually is better for your credit rating then paying them in full. Pay one, the rest come running like vultures to carrion. Anything you give them fattens the coffers of characters even more sleazy than 'collections professionals'.
