OF COURSE they sued you - you have a HOUSE ! It may be part of the American Dream - but its also an American NIGHTMARE when it comes to debts ! Regardless of your equity, they can STILL place liens against real property in most states. Once they get the lien, they are pretty much guaranteed to get their money some day as they would all have to be paid before you can sell the house. Its rare these days for people to live in the same house for 40-50 years like our parents and grandparents once did.

On top of that, you LET them get the judgments by failing to go to court - major goof on your part, sorry.
