What state are you in. It is not necessary to file chapter 13 because you want to keep your house. Depends on how much equity is in the house, and in some states the house is exempt from creditors. (not just Florida) In some states if the debt is individual and the house is in both names, Tenants by the entirety will protect the house. Give us a few more details and we'll see if we can't give you a better choice than pay the attorney or pay the house.
