My mother incurred a $250 doctor bill in 1990. No collection procedures were ever attempted (no letters, phone calls, etc) until just LAST WEEK!!!!!

She was still married to my father in 1990, but was divorced from him in 1992. Their court order stated that he was to be held responsible for all outstanding medical bills that they had accumulated together. He unfortunately passed away in 1996.

My mother is now remarried and lives in another town even. Out of the blue, last week, this CA calls her (still asking for her by her former married name)trying to collect this bill from 1990 that she had forgotten about thinking that my dad possibly paid it after the divorce.

What can she do? The phone calls are becoming more frequent, more harrassing and more rude each time! Any advice would help! Thanks!
