Sorry, but when you deal with scummy thieves you can't expect anything but grief.

How did you pay them? Money Order? Check? Get a copy of the cancelled check ( hopefully with the account # on it) and present it to your loan officer as proof.

It probably won't come off your credit reports, but that's a different issue.
