It is common for a Plaintiff to ask for Summary judgement in these matters. The judge will probably not grant the judgement as long as you completed the interrogatory honestly, and did not incriminate yourself.

You need to call your courthouse (or see if they have a website) to find out the process for filing for a continuance. They should grant you at least one continuance, and it's not abnormal to get 2 or three continuances if you present good reason for asking and you follow the court's rules for requesting them.

I don't know if it matters, but what I have done when requesting a continuance is:
1. Call the Plaintiff's lawyers office, and talk to whoever answers the phone. Give them your name, and request to speak with the lawyer. When they tell you the lawyer is busy, and ask if they can help, just simply tell them that you are requesting a continuance of the trial and that you are just making a courtesy call to notify them. They won't care and will wonder why you even bothered to call them. You don't have to do anything more but write down the name of who you spoke with and the date and time.
2. Write your request to the court asking for a continuance and state a reason for requesting it. State that you have notified the Plaintiff's Attorney's office, (and you can add the name of who you spoke with) and state that their office had no objections to this motion.
3. Wait to get approval on your continuance.

You might want to take the extra time you get to study their case against you, or to interview lawyers to represent you.
