It is your LEGAL right to have the CA send this to you in writing AND give you 30 days to dispute it. This nonsense of trying to force you to agree to ANYTHING over the phone is just scare tactics. One clown tried that on me and I calmly stated that I needed to see SOMETHING in writing because for all I knew he was just some guy who got my credit report and found a defaulted bill. Needless to say I never heard from him again. Trying to scare you into believing they will do something that they won't do or can't do is a clear violation of the FDCPA.

Whatever you do, do NOT agree to anything over the phone. You have 30 days from the time you RECEIVE something in writing from them to make a decision. That gives you at least a month (probably much more) to look over these forums and get some good, solid advice as to what to do. Don't rush into anything (and be careful about giving out info on this forum like "the debt is probably valid" and the name of the creditor and the city you are in. The odds are slim that these guys check out all of the posts here, but you never know.....
