Any time you have a credit card (or automatic bank draft) on record, if it is REJECTED by the cc company or bank, the renewal will not be paid. This occurs if your expiration date on a cc is not updated, so I KNOW that is what occurs.

You say you "closed" a credit card account. If your account was NOT closed by the cc company, and you did not COMPLETELY close the account,i.e. returning your cards etc. then your account was put on "suspension" and was reactivated by the renewal charge.
