felony and misdemeanor charges

Husband's parents (in another state) just got a call from a Daniel Lenahan representing an old Providian account. Said they were issuing a subpoena for 2 felony charges (theft of services) and misdemeanor charge regarding the old Providian card. I didn't realize they could charge you criminally for this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
