Things to do now to protect yourself from future collectors

Keep ALL records that you have now. Keep all notices from collection agencies AND always save your credit reports.

The reason: In the future, some collector may try to collect on a debt that is past the statute of limitations BUT his records will show a different date for the original creditor. With the records that you have now, you can compare what is received in the future with what you have now.

Also: With every collection letter you get you may want to reply by certified mail that they are to stop all contact with you. Keep those return green cards with the letter that they went to.

Throw all this stuff in one file/box and hope you don't have to do anything with it but keep it until all of this is LONG past. You can throw anway all this junk eventually but KEEP OLD CREDIT REPORTS "FOREVER"
