I'm sure glad I don't live in your hometown!! Just kidding. I do live in a big city, but I can call and talk with an attorney, and get some info free. Some work on contingency. There is a lot of competition here. Maybe that is why it is different. My husband paid my attorney immediately, but he had payment plans for people filing bk. There is legal aid, and if lucky, call a law school and get pretty good advice. Of course, the law is greek to me, as it is to you. I can read it and I still am not 100% sure of what I read. So, I want the attorney standing next to me in court. I was sued in small claims court, where attorneys don't go. My attorney recommended bk instead of fighting the law suit, extremely close to SOL, affidavit, the wording was really weird, and they said they paid almost 6K for the debt. And they were Canadian. Probably could have fought them, but since I would have started in small claims, without an attorney and then appealed (300.00 to file ) and then gone to court with an attorney, it would have cost a lot more than the 1K for the bankrupcy. And of course, bk was easy and did give me peace of mind, ending it all. This poster sounded well informed and had been paying on a judgement (if I did not get two posts mixed up). How about legal aid Cat, you would qualify.
