I don't think you can force the bank to do much because it was your mistake. If you were to write a check for the wrong amount, the bank can't get the money back after its been cashed.

The card you paid doesn't have to give back the money either unless it was more than the full balance. Then they have to refund any credit balance you created if you ask.

Possibly you can recover the money with a balance transfer or cash advance. If allowed, there's almost always fees and a higher APR associated with doing this. If it is a store card that doesn't allow cash advances, approach one of your friends who often shops there and offer to pay for their purchase with your card if they give you the same amount in cash. (The seemingly helpful friend in this situation is someone I call the "debt enabler").
