Dept of Ed will not touch it until CA turns it
back over. I already tried. I was told that I had
to make three monthly payments to the CA before
the Dept of Ed would consolidate. They said those
payment would have to be full payments. That would
be equal to my monthly income, so that was out.
There doesn't seem to be much I can do. I looked
at information on Rehabilitation, and it says 12
monthly agreed upon payments. If I make 12
voluntary monthly payment of the allowable
garnishment amount shouldn't this qualify?
Getting info on this is almost impossible.
Everyone who seems to be in the know has the
agenda of working for the student loan companies.
When you start calling them on the misinformation
they give you then they grudgingly give up more
info. But they won't answer straight out.
What really frustrates me about all this is that
this CA called me at work and left 5 messages
within 4 hours. Then when I didn't return the call
after those four hours they called again and told
the secretary that they were calling about my
defaulted student loans and since I was what they
termed "conveiniently unavailable" they then asked
to speak to someone else in the office. They then
told my coworker that they were the federal
government and they were calling about garnishing
me for my defaulted student loans. My coworker
told them to speak to a supervisor (who wasn't
available), the CA rep then told him to stop
playing games with him and then told my co-worker
that they were going to fax the garnishment
information. They then faxed a "verification of
employment" form. That was it.
nothing else. Our office doesn't respond to those
without the employee's consent so of course I said
no way. I immediately faxed them a letter
demanding that they not contact me at my place of
employment. They called one more time and asked
for me, I wasn't available so they asked for my
supervisor who was out. That was the seventh call
in one day.
The next day they called for me again 3 times and
refaxed the verification to my office.
Everyone at my job said something was up because
of the conduct of the CA rep didn't seem on the
level and that I must be a victim of identity
theft. I just let them go on thinking that. So
now, if a real garnishment comes through it will
be soooo humiliating. It just seems there is
nothing I
