There is NO statute of limitations anywhere in the entire country that goes to 14 years. Follow Why Chat's instructions on how to send them an SOL letter based on your state ASAP (you can find the link in the "Newcomers" post further down the page).

And they cannot legally put an entry on your credit report. If you were first delinquent in 1990, the reporting period for that account ended in 1997. If they put something there now, they've just opened themselves up to a lawsuit.

File a complaint with your AG office AND the FTC it they contact you in any way after the SOL letter is sent!!!
