What state ?

In Florida, anyone can file a mechanic's lien by paying a fee and filing an affidavit. However, the lien automatically ends in one year if the company/individual filing the lien does not file a lawsuit.

Also, the owner of the property can contest the lien. That shortens the time to 90 days.

I doubt that it will have any impact on your credit- The biggest problem would come if you wanted to sell the property- then you would have to clean it up first.

You might want to do some reading up on the subject- use google and teoma and approach it as if you wanted to place the lien. That gives you the best information.

Check with your property appraisers office and see if any liens have been filed.

Also, if they really screwed up the job, contact your local tv stations- they usually have reporters who get involved in this sort of thing. Funny how things get fixed when the media gets involved.

In the meantime, I wouldn't be too concerned about credit report.
