They do not have to agree to any payment plan. They can get a judgment and try to garnish your wages and bank accounts. You might want to look into bankruptcy. You should go to court and at least force them to prove their case. If you don't go, the judge might give them anything they ask for which might be more than they are entitled to.Unles you have a defense to the amount owed, getting a lawyer won't help much.
