I know the names of all of the people who have lived at my address for the past 25 years. None of them have had the name of the *male* person the CA is calling for. I am also aware of the names of all of the people for the last 15 years who have had the same phone number. It is a bit more insidious than that.

I used to work in corrections and have done a fair amount of skip-tracing, so I know how it works. Someone gave out our phone number and a bogus name in an attempt to commit fraud. Until I know who it is, I am NOT about to give personal information to a CA with a clear record of, and numerous sanctions for improper collections activities. It is up to them to validate the accuracy of their information.

And I've yet to talk to a collections agent who had the wrong number who believed me when I told them they had the wrong number. (For some reason I've never gotten a phone number, land-line or mobile, that wasn't associated with someone who ended up with multiple collections!) I don't bother arguing with them anymore. This is just the first time that I've received snail mail for the person along with phone calls.
