Since my post have been archived I am updating here today. I live in Mississippi and haven't paid on a crdit card amount of $600 to Discover since the end of 2001(nov.)Yesterday I got a call from Smith and McCarty from Ridgeland Mississippi saying he was a attorney and told me I owed alittle over $4000 and when could they expect a payment. I told this guy that I could probably only pay $200 a month orally over the phone and it seemed that he agreed orally. A hour later I get another phone call from the same place but a different attorney telling me that $200 dollars wasn't enough and that he needed me to send $1750 NOW. He told me that he could garnish my check. If they start calling my job I can lose my job and that will not acomplish anything. I have a checking account but only use it for direct deposit of my check which only goes in every two weeks. I know I owe the debt but just can't pay that much. I barely make it through the two week period now and have to watch my money very carfully to have enough for gas and food.
