When it rains it pours, huh. You might look at that appeals case from Indiana (your state; right?) and see what it says about their having to wait the 30 days before resuming collection efforts, that was covered in the opinion of that case. If I remember correctly, it declared filing a lawsuit constitutes the continuation of their collection effort since satisfaction of the debt could be the result of their action. Not a quote, but that was the jest of it. Let me know if you need the link again, I still have it.

I doubt they have filed anything. The fact that this communication is formatted to resemble something from a court might be a violation of FDCPA. You might check out the FTC's website to see if you can find anything about that, I am thinking what they did was a big no no, but I could be wrong.
