I can't speak for Indiana, but I know that here in WV, there is a form that you fill out at the court (after a judgement) that shows amount you make, your rent, utilities, age of vehicle, etc and then they exempt it. Then they base the garnishment amount on what's left after all the exemptions come off.
I agree that they are just trying to scare you. I would send them a letter giving them permission to contact you by mail only (limited C & D) and see what happens from there.
