SOL possible on credit cards?

Hello About 10 years ago, I divorsed and got stuck with some
credit dedt that I did not paid in full. As a matter of fact it has been at least 8 years since I made a payment. On and of I do get a call from a CA. Yesterday I got a called that cought me of guard. After saying who I was they said they ware collecting on a $7,000 credit card I had. I (unfortunately ) said I was not going to take care of it and hang-up...
Today I got another call, which I did not answer.. Can they still try to collect even though it has been so long? What can I do to make sure such account has actually been charged off? In My credit it shows no activity since 1994.. Thanks Muchoit
