Midland is not afraid to sue if the debt is large enough and they can confirm that you have assets. If the debt is truly yours, suggest trying to strike a deal. On the other hand, MCM is a debt buyer, so they might not have the paperwork from the OC since it costs them to get such info. Still, since they usually buy debts for $.05 on the dollar, you might be able to negotiate. They have a website if you want to do some research.
