Bancrupcy Question?

Hello all, Any help with my question will be greatly appreciated...
First off I filed Bancrupcy April 1996 and it was judged and completed on May 1996.
My question is basically when I do get my credit report and look thur it, I find charge offs and credit cards that are still open and listed as 2001, does that mean that these cards are current and active?
I look thur the site and checked out the tables for how long charge offs are on your report, would it be better to wait and see what happens on the 7yrs deadline or call the creditors and see about paying some of it off...
I must admit it is my own fault, not taking the time and asking the questions when this occured, but under distress and being very glad that all was taken care of and no one was calling and harassing me I let it slide alot...lol
Also when I have filed bancrupcy does this mean the charge offs are no longer something you pay off, and does the 7yr deadline apply to me at all having filed bancrupcy?
