Your friend needs to know if the debt is old enough for the Statute of Limitations to apply. If so, he needs to tell the judge that fact.
If not and he loses, the creditor can attach a lein on his house if the law in his state allows it. They can garnish his wages again, state law premitting and, they can attach his bank account.
Also, judgements last for decades and accrue interest.
