Responsible for x-wife's hospital bill?

My husband got a call yesterday from a collection agency. It seems that in 1995 (7 years ago), his wife (at the time, now they're divorced) visited the hospital. She did not have a job, and therefore was covered under his insurance from his work. So she used his insurance for this visit. Anyway, we got the call yesterday from a collection agency saying that my husband owes them for this hospital visit. They still had the address from 7 years ago (he has not lived there for 6 years), and this is the first correspondence he has had about this debt. It is not on his credit report either, which we find strange. My question is: are we really responsible for paying for her hospital bill from 7 years ago? It seems unfair that we never received a call from the hospital or a letter or anything...and now it's been turned over. Isn't 7 years later a little too late? Also, since it was her visit, even though she was covered under my husband's insurance, isn't it her responsibility to pay? Answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated.
