I would write them a validation letter NOW. Even if they say they are going to send you the proof, which is highly unlikely given the fact that Sprint can't locate you in their computer. The key here is to start your paper trail. Put down the phone and STOP talking to Gulf state. Word to the wise. Never never EVER talk to a CA on the phone. They love to manipulate what you say, confuse you, trap you...just write them a letter asking them to validate your "debt". If they can't do so, they must not report.

Also, what credit bureau did you call? There are three: Equifax, Experian and Transunion. Gulf State may be reporting the debt on any or all three of these CRAs. I would definitely pull all your reports and start from there.
