sorry to hear about the situation that your in .. this sounds like its a written contract to me where as both here in Nevada & Michigan the SOL is rather long at 6 years on written contracts .. me im no expert on these matters but think IF i were you id get it over with once you maybe TRY to settle than after thats been totally exhausted id file chapter 7 BK & BE DONE .. i understand you not wanting to file becouse its so close to being off your reports & close to SOL but really your in a tough position becouse a judgement with interest incurring will be terriable down the road & you sound kinda young .. ya know id hate to have to file BK for so little like this but when ya dont have that with a child that little amount is really ALOT so me id go the try to settle for maybe 5000 with small payments , doubt they'll go for it but what the heck try than finally like i say BK chapter 7 .. honestly if their looking for 15000 i cant see them settling for less than maybe 7500 at best but i could be wrong .. id bet whychat & others who know tons more than myself may give you some better advise , least i hope they have better news cause honestly i dont myself & you deserve facts not my guess on this .. im sorry & i wish you all the best of luck ............ bye , kel .........
